PNP says more cops complying with Body Mass Index

March 2, 2020

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said the number of police officers who intially did not comply with their Body Mass Index (BMI) has gone down.

In a presentation at a conference at the Ateneo De Manila University, in Camp Crame, the number of cops did not comply to their BMI decreased from 81,050 in November 2019 to 75,929 in February 2020.

From November 2019 to February 25, 2020, the number of police officers with normal BMI went up by 10.99 percent, or from 98,093 cops last year to 108,876 by February 2020.

One of Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa’s order upon assumption as the chief PNP is for cops to have an ideal weight as this will help in giving the public a good image.

The PNP’s BMI monitoring matrix will be submitted every first Friday of the month while a monthly and quarterly evaluation will  be implemented by the PNP.

By the end of the first quarter of 2020, PNP personnel who will not achieve their ideal BMI would face sanctions such as facing neglect of duty and they would be subject for investigation and intervention.

They might also face a case if they have unsatisfactory BMI at the end of every quarter.

Last January, Gamboa reminded PNP personnel who fail to meet their normal BMI and be identified as obese will be denied of mandatory schooling which is essential for their career development and promotion. Ella Dionisio/DMS
