PNP says Negros Oriental situation becoming normal
August 5, 2019
The Philippine National Police ( PNP) said the situation in Negros Oriental is gradually becoming normal after the arrest of suspects behind the deaths of the four policemen.
Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, the PNP spokesman, in a statement Monday said two suspects in the killing of four policemen were arrested and charged with violating the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunitions along with a law on explosives.
They were charged for violating these laws in an inquest proceeding at the Office of Provincial Prosecutor on Sunday, said Banac.
''Residents have nothing to fear. We assure them that the peace and order situation in Negros Oriental is under control,'' said Banac in a statement.
Three suspects were also arrested but Banac said police are trying to find out of they are involved with the killings that rocked the province starting last month.
Eighteen persons have been killed starting last month and it has been speculated that martial law may be declared in the province.
''As of now, we cannot say if this ( declaring martial law in the province) will be recommended because we see the situation is under control. However, our political leaders have look at it differently,'' said Banac. DMS
