PNP says no ill feelings towards PDEA

September 23, 2019

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Monday said they don’t have ill feelings with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after it disclosed some police officers are still involved in “drug recycling”.

“Of course not. We don’t have ill feelings with them. What we are saying is of course we have this inter-agency courtesy and by this time I am sure the public and everybody knows how dead serious we are in our campaign against illegal drugs, weeding out scalawags in our ranks,” Police General Oscar Albayalde said in a press briefing.

Based on their data, as of August 20, they filed administrative cases against 8,733 uniformed and non-uniformed personnel involved in different illegal activities.

“Of these cases, 448 PNP personnel were dismissed who were found to be involved in illegal drugs,” said Albayalde.

“The PNPs campaign on internal cleansing will remain relentless and we will not stop until all rogue cops are weeded out in our organization,” he added.

Albayalde said they are “dead serious” in their internal cleansing and they would like to improve the discipline in the organization.

“It will not happen during my time because I am retiring in less than 2 months from now but I hope we were able to at least improve the level of discipline and cleansing in our ranks… I hope anyone who will replace me will continue on so that totally there will come a time that our police organization will deserve the respect of the community,” he added.

Albayalde assured the public they are serious in their campaign on internal cleansing and that anytime suspects whether policemen or not, resist violently especially by using a deadly weapon, police will also use necessary force to contain or suppress the risk and threat.

“We urge the public to report any wrongdoing of our cops,” he added.  Ella Dionisio/DMS
