PNP says no need to speak on Duterte marijuana use as it is a joke
December 4, 2018
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said there is no need for them to comment on President Rodrigo Duterte's joke saying he is using marijuana to keep him awake.
"Since the president said already that it was a joke, so I think there is no need for us to comment any further or to speculate on the speculation of others," said Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr., PNP spokesman, said on Tuesday in an interview with reporters in Camp Crame.
On the legalization of medical marijuana, Durana said they "will just serve as one of the inputs as they (Congress) this particular law".
"We are an agency that implements policy and enforcers the law," he added.
Last Monday night, Duterte said in his speech that in an ASEAN meeting he used marijuana to keep him awake.
"It's a killing activity, and I think at my age, I could hardly (sleep) because I'm taking marijuana to keep me awake. Others could not keep up," he said.
He also said that he was in favor of legalizing medical marijuana. Ella Dionisio/DMS
