PNP says online memo claiming Gamboa will be next head is ”fake news”
October 18, 2019
President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to name the new head of the Philippine National Police ( PNP) after a memorandum circulated online about the coming change of command set on October 29.
"We may consider it as fake news... the president has not make any announcement on who will be the next PNP chief," Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said on Friday.
He said this memorandum could be for planning purposes only.
On the memo, Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa is named as the successor of Police General Oscar Albayalde who relinquished from his post last October 14 after being dragged in "ninja cops" mess.
Gamboa was assigned by Duterte as the officer-in-charge of PNP until he announces who will be the next PNP chief. Ella Dionisio/DMS
