PNP says Sison’s oust Duterte remarks ”baseless”
July 8, 2019
The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Monday said the statement of Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Joma Sison that the United States can stage a coup against President Rodrigo Duterte is "baseless".
In a statement last week, Sison said US can order the military and police to oust Duterte.
"That statement has no basis," Police Colonel Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said in a radio interview.
"We all know that the PNP is loyal in our service and we will maintain on following the Constitution and the law. So it's impossible that this kind of illegal things will happen," he said.
Banac reiterated what Police General Oscar Albayalde said that Duterte has unlimited sources of information that could prompt him in asking the military and police to not stage a coup against him.
"We can assure the public that the PNP will be loyal in service and we will not let the administration be a victim of coup d'etat," he said.
Banac said there is no need to conduct a loyalty check as they are sure everyone is loyal to Duterte.
He said any officer that will plan something illegal will automatically face administrative sanction.
"We will give them a stern warning that this kind of act is not tolerated and we should keep being loyal with our oath and to the Constitution," Banac added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
