PNP says they have no ”capacity” to wiretap to get information
March 7, 2019
Police General Oscar Albayalde, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said they can't wiretap to get information as they don't '' have the capacity to do that.''
“We don’t have the capacity to do that in PNP. I don’t know with the other government agencies,” Albayalde said in a TV interview.
This after Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said pieces of information from foreign governments through wiretapping were sources of the Duterte administration's list of narco-politicians.
Albayalde said it is better for the politicians to know if they are included in the so-called narcolist or not.
“If someone is afraid if he is included or not this is one way to clear his name,” he said.
According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), 64 personalities included in the narcolist are re-electionists candidates.
However, PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said he does not know about the wiretapping Panelo is talking about.
“We don’t receive information or intelligence regarding the narcolist that came from the other countries,” Aquino said in a radio interview.
Though the PDEA chief is against in releasing the list, the Department of Interior and Local Government is set to release it by next week once they finish their re-validation. Ella Dionisio/DMS
