The Philippine National Police ( PNP) suspended Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, National Capital Region, and the province of La Union for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
In a memorandum dated November 5, PNP Officer-in-Charge, Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa ordered all permits to be suspended from November 20 to December 14, 2019.
Gamboa said only members of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines, other law enforcement agencies with official duties and functions for SEA Games are allowed to carry firearms on these regions.
"This is part of our security preparations for the coming SEA Games to be held here in the country and we would like to ensure activities to be free from firearms-related incident and to assure the safety of all local and foreign delegates," Gamboa said.
Persons who are in agency-prescribed uniforms and participants of the SEA Games Shooting Competitions are also exempted to the suspension of PTCFOR, the PNP said.
"We will closely coordinate with the AFP, local government units, and other law enforcement agencies to fully implement this suspension," Gamboa added.
About nearly 10,000 athletes from Southeast Asian Region are expected to grace the 30th SEA Games which will run from November 30 to December 11. DMS
