PNP tells police directors they will be relieved if three of their chiefs fail to stop illegal gambling

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday told police directors they will be “automatically relieved” if three of their chiefs of police will be relieved due to lack of accomplishment in illegal gambling.
“So I am now announcing that if three chiefs of police for example in Manila Police District (MPD) and Quezon City Police District (QCPD) (which) we call numbered police stations or in any other metropolitan cities… So if three of your police stations are relieved then automatic it will cause the relief of the chief of police and it already happened,” said PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said.
Gamboa said the provincial director of Bulacan police and some chiefs in Metro Manila were relieved following an investigation for their failure to curb illegal gambling.
“In Metro Manila I think three weeks ago, three chiefs of police were relieved for that reason... two or three of their station commanders were also relieved but this is upon the initiative of NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office),” he said.
Gamboa their three-strike policy usually starts from the lower units.
“That’ why I told them I am giving you one week to launch your offensives, otherwise after one or two weeks the national headquarters would start operation,” Gamboa said.
“And worse that could happen is if the personnel who will conduct raid against you will be coming from the national headquarters… it will really be a count against you,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
