PNP to investigate officers in Duterte’s new drug list
April 4, 2019
Police General Oscar Albayalde, head of the Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Thursday said they are willing to investigate officers who will be included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s new drug matrix.
In a TV interview, Albayalde said they have yet to receive the copy of the list.
“Hopefully, if the president releases it we will know who is in the list and compare it to our list,” he said.
“We are very much willing to investigate (our officers),” Albayalde added.
Albayalde said since assuming his post, he is very serious cleansing the PNP of scalawags.
“Since day one of assuming the chief PNP post I intensified our internal cleansing and disciplinary mechanism,” he said.
Police Colonel Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said in a press briefing officers who will be involved in the list may face dismissal.
“Being involved in illegal drugs has a punishment of dismissal from service, this is being considered as grave offense,” said Banac.
He said aside from administrative cases, PNP can also be file criminal charges against them.
Banac said around 441 personnel were dismissed from service due to their involvement to illegal drugs.
Last Tuesday, Duterte vowed to make public a document detailing the involvement of some police officials in illegal drugs. Ella Dionisio/DMS
