August 9, 2019

Police General Oscar Albayalde on Friday said they are aiming to open more police attachés abroad especially to countries where there are a lot of overseas Filipino workers.

“In compliance with the President (Rodrigo Duterte), we hope to open more offices of police attachés in countries where there are more number of overseas Filipino workers in order to provide them with the services they deserve,” Albayalde said in a speech during the Philippine National Police (PNP) 118th anniversary.

He said they just opened police attachés in France and Indonesia which is addition to their existing attachés in Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, China and Malaysia.

“And will be opening in Thailand very soon,” he added.

In a speech last July 12, Duterte promised OFWs he will designate police attachés that they can approach when they encounter abuses or security concerns abroad.

“The police attaché will connect you to (inform) the Philippines if there are any problems. And they will be trained to help you in legal matters of how to do it in the meantime that you are not here to solve the problem,” he said.

The PNP launched in 2018 its Global Police Community Relation (PCR) which aims to create a platform of support and cooperation between the government and various organizations of Filipino communities abroad. Ella Dionisio/DMS
