PNP to resolve problems with IAS ”internally”
October 23, 2019
The officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said they will resolve any problems they have with their Internal Affairs Service (IAS) “internally’.
In an interview, Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa said he will meet with IAS to discuss the more than 400 suspects who allegedly died under police custody and the suspension of Police Lieutenant Joven De Guzman, the leader on in the controversial Antipolo raid last May.
“We will resolve everything… we will resolve it internally first,” said Gamboa.
In a separate interview, Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson said the report reached the leadership and they are doing something about it.
“We assure the public the PNP will remain transparent and all the process being conducted will not be neglected,” Banac said.
“Justice and due process must be continuously followed,” he added.
On the IAS report that 70 percent of recommended sanctions are not acted upon, Banac said it is fortunate that they released their observation.
“(PLt.) General Gamboa assured that under his leadership, all this report from IAS will be acted upon,” he said.
“If there is a need to remove (cops) from service, it should be done but it should undergo the proper process,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
