PNP waits for word from DOH if they will be asked to find persons suspected to have virus
January 30, 2020
After confirmation that a Chinese tourist was found positive of 2019 NCov, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said all their units are on standby once the Department of Health (DOH) release their guidelines.
“The PNP will assist the DOH in the monitoring of major entry points in the country. The PNP Health Service has established a direct line of communication with the DOH,” said Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, the PNP spokesman, in a statement.
“We have the PNP Maritime Group and the PNP Aviation Security Group now on standby that can be mobilized upon receipt of advisory or guidance from the DOH,” he added.
Banac said local police units are awaiting notice if needed by DOH to track down other persons that may have been infected by nCoV.
The PNP urged the public to remain calm.
“We assure the public that the PNP remains alert and vigilant to ensure public order and safety; and prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the situation,” Banac said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
