PNP welcomes people willing to cooperate on ”8chan” probe
August 8, 2019
The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Thursday said they are welcome anyone willing to cooperate with the investigation on the online message board "8chan."
"If ever that someone wants to cooperate then that's okay. It's good and we can establish what is the real purpose of that website," Police General Oscar Albayalde told reporters.
In a report, Fredrick Brennan, creator of the website, expressed his willingness to talk to authorities.
Albayalde said the PNP- Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) have the initial findings on the incident after ordering them to verify the website last Monday.
"But I don't know if they confirmed the owner of the website," he said.
According to an earlier report by US website security company Cloudflare, the gunman behind the shooting, which claimed 22 lives, posted a four-page statement at the messaging forum before storming a Walmart store.
Albayalde said they will decide to shut down the website depending on the content. He said they will file a formal complaint after gathering information and verification. Ella Dionisio/DMS
