PNP welcomes statements from ex-officials on rogue cops, drug recycling

September 20, 2019

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Friday said statements from previous  officers about rogue cops on their organization has become one of its references in solving the country's drug problem.

They made the statement after the former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, and now Baguio City mayor Benjamin Magalong disclosed some police officials are involved in drug recycling.

“Pertaining to the testimonies, statements made- we are thankful for all the testimonies made by our previous police officers. We have to remember that Sir Magalong was the CIDG director five years ago,” Police Lieutenant Colonel Kimberly Molitas, PNP deputy spokesperson, said in a press briefing.

“From then on it was a different government and I think one of the things that has happen is this government has strongly- those findings from previous police officers has become a reference for this new government to strongly resolve and fight against illegal drugs,” she said.

Molitas added they are thankful to former officials who have been working  hard to at least look at the problem of illegal drugs.

And because of these findings, she said intensified internal cleansing has started.

“It was just a task force that time- Counter Intelligence Task Force (CITF), and then we have continued the effort by making sure CITF is institutionalized and became the Internal Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG),” said Molitas.

“So now, it reflects that this solution is not just a band-aid solution to rid our ranks of scalawags but we made sure it’s institutionalized. We will continue and we will keep cleaning our ranks to make sure that every rogue cop- even though they are AWOL (absent without leave), dismissed will still be arrested,” she added.

Molitas said their operation against rogue and scalawags cops will not stop.

During an executive session, Magalong gave a list of rogue cops involved in illegal drugs to the senators.

The issue of drug recycling started during Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s budget hearing where Director General Aaron Aquino disclosed that some police officers are involved in drug recycling and are even involved with a drug queen in Manila. Ella Dionisio/DMS
