PNP welcomes surrender of Daraga mayor in Legazpi
May 10, 2019
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said the surrender of Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo is a development in the murder case he is facing.
“Mayor Baldo’s voluntary surrender in Legazpi City is a development but only part of the other (persons) we are looking for that also has a warrant of arrest,” PNP spokesperson Colonel Bernard Banac said in a press briefing.
In a message to reporters, Banac confirmed Baldo surrendered to Judge Ma Theresa San Juan-Loquillano of RTC 10, Legazpi City.
Loquillano issued his warrant last May 3 with no recommended bail.
“He is now committed to BJMP district jail in Legazpi City,” he said.
It was reported that around 8:30 am, Baldo went to a regional court in Legazpi City accompanied by his family and lawyer. Arraignment has been set on May 30.
Baldo is the alleged mastermind in the killing of AKO-Bicol Partylist representative Rodel Batocabe and his security aide last December. Batocabe was going to run for mayor in Daraga. Ella Dionisio/DMS
