PNP will look into transactions with Huawei

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said they are not affected with the alleged “security risk” of entering into a contract with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. but added they will look into it.
In a press briefing, Police General Oscar Albayalde said all transactions they have with Huawei underwent rigorous bidding.
“I will have to check on that because I’m not so privy (on the issue) but the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management is here. Now I directed the DIDM to check on that,” Albayalde said.
US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo warned the government on dealing with Huawei as some countries are starting to ban the company due to alleged Chinese technology risks, such as spying.
“We are not affected because we don’t have a contract with them. Maybe they supply some (equipment) but everything underwent bidding. It was all in place. Not because they are Huawei, we are favoring them. We follow the bidding law here and if they really win, then they are the winner,” said Albayalde.
During last week’s PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group’s 6th National Anti-Cybercrime Summit held in Camp Crame, Huawei is one of the major sponsors. Ella Dionisio/DMS
