PNP will not allow 16 police recruits who posted FB photos drinking to graduate

February 11, 2020

The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said he will not allow 16 police recruits to graduate for misconduct after they uploaded in social media videos and photos of them drinking liquor inside their dormitory.

Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa led the graduation ceremony of Public Safety Basic Recruit Course (PSBRC) last Monday where he announced that the 16 police trainees will not graduate.

“I told the 16 (trainees). I promise you, you will not graduate from PSBRC and you can never enter the PNP,” Gamboa said in a radio interview.

He said the 16 trainees came back from vacation when they misbehaved.

Gamboa also ordered the relief of the Regional Training Group for administrative investigation.

In a statement, the regional director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said the training director identified the police trainees, issued delinquency report and conducted a formal fact-finding investigation.

“While the investigation is ongoing and pending for the convening of Academic Board and due process, these police trainees are temporarily held in abeyance and not included in the list of graduates for February 10, 2020,” Police Major General Debold Sinas said.

Sinas said they want to ensure a strong sense of foundation for the future law enforcers.

“The new breed of Metro Cops should not only be physically fit, emotionally balanced, mentally sharp, morally upright but most of all, perpetually disciplined,” he said.

“As the NCRPO commits on the continuous implementation of Internal Cleansing Program of our Chief, PNP, this should serve as a lesson and a precautionary tale for all - that delinquency and misconduct will never be tolerated under my watch”, he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
