POEA lifts deployment ban to Kuwait

February 14, 2020

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Friday meeting ordered the full lifting of the deployment ban imposed by the government in Kuwait following the killing of overseas Filipino worker Jeanelyn Padernal Villavende.

Based on POEA Governing Board Resolution No. 07-2020, the ban on the deployment of domestic workers or household service workers is being lifted too.

"The POEA Governing Board in a meeting duly convened resolves to lift the deployment ban in Kuwait and to resume the processing and deployment of all remaining categories of domestic workers or household service workers," said POEA.

The resolution stated that the full lifting of the ban is prompted by the filing of charges againat those behind Villavende’s death.

“After due consultation with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and with the filing of appropriate charges against the perpetrators (in the killing) of OFW Jeanelyn Villavende in a Kuwait court, the Governng Board of the POEA unanimously approved the lifting of the remaining ban in Kuwait with respect to the deployment of household workers,” said the POEA.

It was back in January 15 when the POEA imposed a total deployment ban against Kuwait due to the sexual abuse and brutal killing of Villavende.

Last week, the POEA ordered the partial lifting of the deployment ban with all OFWs, except newly-hired and returning domestic workers, allowed to be deployed to Kuwait.

This was after the Kuwait and Philippine governments agreed on the template of the standard employment contract for Filipino domestic workers. DMS
