The Philippine National Police- Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) on Tuesday arrested the officer-in-charge of Buenavista municipal station in Agusan Del Norte for robbery-extortion.
Colonel Ronald Lee, IMEG director, said they arrested Captain Junila Gultiano after receiving complaint from the Buenavista Furniture Association.
Lee said the complainants sought the assistance of the PNP-IMEG to go after the suspect who was allegedly demanding weekly P500 from them and additional P5 per board feet for every lumber they sell.
“The complainant told the PNP-IMEG that they were asked to give the P500 every week in exchange for the unhampered operations of their business,” he said.
Gultiano was arrested during an entrapment operation inside the police station after he received P1, 000 from the complainant.
“We have arrested another police officer accused of extortion in line with our continuing implementation of General Gamboa’s directive to go after rogues in uniform regardless of their rank and stature. We assure the public too that we will immediately and properly act on all complaints against erring police officers and men being forwarded to us,” Lee said.
Gultiano is under the custody of the PNP-IMEG and will face administrative and criminal charges for robbery-extortion. Ella Dionisio/DMS
