Police arrest suspects in alleged kidnap try of three Chinese

September 24, 2019

Philippine National Police Anti Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) on Tuesday arrested suspects behind alleged kidnapping try by three Chinese nationals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Authorities nabbed six Chinese nationals identified as Chen Xin, Liu Chen, Yang Shuwen, Wei Chong, Zhang Lee, Qi Long; and a Taiwanese national identified as Yu Jhong Ruei.

According to PNP-AKG, the suspects attempted to kidnap Huanbo Xu, Kiming Xu, and Kailang Ou on Saturday by pretending to assist them with their travel documents to return to China.

The victims were allegedly recruited in China to work for a company in Philippines connected to online gaming. They were promised a monthly salary worth 10,000 to 20,000 renminbi.

However, they received only 6,000 renminbi on their first pay which prompted them to report at the Chinese embassy where they approached the suspects.

"Victims paid 5,400 RMB (1,800 RMB per travel documents) each for three travel documents with promise to deliver within 3 to 5 days," the report from PNP-AKG read.

"On September 21, 2019, Yang Shuwen called up the victims and instructed them to meet at 6 pm at Gate 7, departure area of Terminal 3, Pasay City for their travel documents," the report added. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
