Police get CCTV footages around Bilibid before BuCor official got killed

February 28, 2020

Investigators on the killing of suspended Bureau of Correction (BuCor) legal chief Fredric Anthony Santos got a copy of CCTV footages around New Bilibid Prison where one of the alleged suspects was seen, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief.

“I have talked to the COP (Muntinlupa City chief of police) and based on their follow-up investigation, they obtained the CCTV footages in the vicinity of BuCor compound and said footages showed Santos leaving the minimum security compound of New Bilibid Prison proceeding to school where he was shot,” Sinas said.

“The CCTV also captured one motorcycle who overtook his vehicle… we are comparing the CCTV footages and we are coordinating with NBP investigators to enhance our investigation,” he added.

Last week, Sinas said investigators are having a hard time as CCTV cameras in the area of incident were not working but he clarified that malfunctioning private-owned CCTVs is beyond their control.

“We are just asking them for a copy because that is not government-owned CCTVs,” he said.

While they are waiting for Santos’ family, the NCRPO chief said the NBP gave them a copy of the lawyer’s case folder to find any leads on the possible motive why he was killed.

“Until now the family is not visiting the police station… I advised (the investigators) to always contact the family so that once they are ready then get their statements, deposition so that we may know if they have any idea on the motive or possible group behind the shooting,” Sinas said.

“We will wait for them… because if we force them then they might not speak… we need full cooperation so we will wait until they finished mourning,” he said.

A week after the relieved BuCor official was killed, NCRPO has still no persons of interest on the incident. Ella Dionisio/DMS
