February 26, 2020

A police officer on Tuesday committed suicide in Pasig City, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

The NCRPO said the cop was Police Master Sergeant Roberto Defeliz, 53, and assigned at Eastern Police District Explosive and Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit.

It said the incident transpired around 4:30pm inside his house along West Bank Road Bry Rosario, Pasig City.

According to the investigation, Defeliz was found by his daughter holding a gun and uttering words of wanting to die.

The witness tried to pacify her father but unfortunately, the victim shot himself in his chest.

He was rushed to Pasig City General Hospital (PCGH), but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor.

NCRPO Regional Director, Police Major Debold Sinas said they are coordinating with the family of the policeman to investigate the incident.

"We extend our deepest sympathies as we mourn with the bereaved family and loved ones. Team NCRPO is one with the victim’s family at this difficult time. I will see to it that the family will be provided with all the necessary assistance,” he said.

Sinas emphasized the morale and welfare of his men is the most important of all his priorities in NCRPO.

Sinas urged all NCRPO personnel to support and encourage one another.

“Aside from making sure of our physical safety as we perform our mandate, protecting our mental health is equally important. With this in mind, I urge our personnel to look out for each other, support and encourage someone to seek help if needed in order to avoid similar incident,” he said.  Ella Dionisio/DMS
