Policeman, suspect killed in Bulacan

A policeman and a suspect were killed in an armed encounter in the province of Bulacan on Friday night.
Police Col. Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan provincial director, said the slain policeman was Police Corporal Ronnie Tamaliuan, a member of the Bulacan Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) while the suspect was identified as certain Nesty Nacino alias Wek, who was allegedly released from Bulacan Provincial Jail for a drug case.
The public information office of the Bulacan Provincial Police said police personnel were responding to a report about an alleged armed group led by the suspect.
The shootout occurred in the house of the suspect in the vicinity of Alveo Relocation Site in Brgy Lalangan, Plaridel around 11:30 pm.
Nacino allegedly fired his shotgun towards the policemen, resulting in an encounter where Tamaliuan sustained gunshot wound.
Nacino escaped but was later killed by operatives in a gun battle.
“The suspect Alias Wek managed to escape and entered into an under construction building and again a gunfight ensued. The suspect threw hand grenade to the pursuing police officers but it hit the wall and bounced back inside. However, it did not explode and later on the suspect was eventually neutralized,” the report stated.
After the clash, Tamaliuan was brought to Peralta Hospital in Plaridel, Bulacan but was pronounced dead on arrival by a physician.
Authorities recovered one 12 GA Model 86 Maverick shotgun, four pieces fired shot shell of 12 GA; one shot shell of 12 GA; one black coin purse containing 62 pieces heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets with white crystalline substance of suspected shabu; one black Adidas cellphone pouch containing three pcs heat sealed transparent plastic sachets with white crystalline substance of suspected shabu; 32 pieces cal. 5.56 fired cartridge case; one piece cal 5.56 live ammo; seven pieces cal 7.62 fired cartridge case; 26 pieces cal 9mm fired cartridge case; one cal 9mm live ammo; one cal 30 carbine live ammo; six pieces cal 40 fired cartridge case; two pieces 12 GA plastic wad; two pieces totally deformed fired bullet; and one cut plastic sachet with suspected shabu residue from the crime scene.

Banac said “the surviving kin of PCpl Tamaliuan will receive death benefits which include P250,000.00 from the President’s Social Fund; between P141,000.00 up to P181,000.00 as Special Financial Assistance (SFA) from the PNP; burial benefits worth P50,000.00; and P200,000.00 gratuity from the National Police Commission.”
“PNP members of the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund are also entitled to death insurance depending on rank. These death benefits are on top of the estimated P15,000.00 pesos monthly lifetime pension from the PNP and roughly the same amount of pension for five years from the Napolcom,” he added.
