PSE index breaches 8,000-point barrier

The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished above 8,000 points on Monday, as it reversed course in early trading for a 1.52 percent gain.
The index finished at 8,024.14 points, up 120.05. In the broader market, there were 125 gainers, 80 decliners and 42 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.13 billion shares worth P6.8 billion from 5.49 billion shares valued at P8.5 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Ayala Land, up 0.45 percent to P44.55; Metrobank, up 2.63 percent to P80 and SM Prime, up 1.54 percent to P39.60.
The peso hit a high of P52.11 against the US dollar lost its gains as it ended at P52.26, down 12 cetavos from Friday's close. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines fetched $693.89 million from Friday's $831 million. DMS
