PSE index down, peso gains vs US dollar

The main Philippine share index closed lower while the peso gained against the US dollar on Monday. The peso ended at P50.93 from Friday's P51.09. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.579 billion from $1.598 billion on Friday. The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index finished at 7,797.87 points, down 41.92. In the broader market, there were 114 losers, 80 gainers and 45 losers. Volume reached 664.04 million shares worth P4.1 billion from Friday's 659. 2 million valued at P5.6 billion. Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, down 60 centavos to P44.15; Manila Water, up 38 centavos to P9.63, SM Prime, down 60 centavos to P42,20 and BPI, down 50 centavos to P88.50. DMS
