PSE index ends with modest gains, peso declines slightly vs US dollar

The main Philippine share index closed with modest gains while the peso declined against the US dollar on Monday.
The peso ended at P51.09 from Friday's P51,055. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $767.25 million from the previous session's $859.24 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index finished at 8,188.52, up 4.53 points. In the broader market, there were 100 losers, 91 gainers and 53 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 667.34 million shares worth P4.84 billion from Friday's 1.23 billion shares valued at P5.9 billion.
Most active shares were led by Jollibee, up 80 centavos to P252.80; SM Investment Corp., up P10 to P1,020; SM Prime, up 70 centavos to P1,020 and Ayala Corp., down P20 to P963. DMS
