PSE index gains but ends short of 8,000 points

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index closed higher but still short of the 8,000-point mark on Monday.
The PSE index ended at 7,971.33 points, up 62.44 points. In the broader market, there were 114 decliners and 97 gainers while 39 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 1.39 billion shares valued at P11.07 billion from Friday's 2.8 billion worth P16.4 billion.
Most traded shares were led by JG Summit, up 7.79 percent to P67.10; Vista Land, unchanged at P8.00 and San Miguel Corp., up 7.06 percent to P174.50.
The peso gained 11 centavos to finish at P52.33 against the US dollar. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $816.3 million from Friday's $756.9 million. DMS
