PSE index higher but short of 8,000 points

The Philippine Stock Exchange index ended higher but fell short of regaining the 8,000-point level on Thursday.
The PSE index gained 71.01 points to 7,991.25. In the broader market, there were 115 gainers, 92 decliners while 39 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 3.79 billion shares worth P5.11 billion from Wednesday's 4,63 billion shares valued at P7.27 billion.
Most active shares were led by BDO, up 2.25 percent to P140.60; ICTSI, up 0.78 percent to P115.90; Ayala Land, up 1.35 percent to P45 and Jollibee, up 1.65 percent to P321.20.
The peso closed at P52.38 against the US dollar, down 25 centavos from the previous day. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $1.097 billion from Wednesday's $1.098 billion. DMS
