PSE index, peso gain

The main Philippine stock index and the peso closed higher while on Wednesday.
The peso closed at P52.28 against the US dollar from P52.45 on Tuesday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.27 billion from $1.209 on the previous day.
The Philippine Stock Exchange ( PSE) index finished at 7,858.65, up 70.20 points. In the broader market, there were 112 gainers, 83 losers and 40 unchanged.
Volume reached 1.17 billion shares worth P6.56 billion from Tuesday's 1.82 billion shares valued at P8.6 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up P1.65 to P48.90; SM Prime, up 80 centavos to P35.50 and Universal Robina Corp., up P6.50 to P169.50. DMS
