PSE index slumps, peso loses ground vs US dollar

The main Philippine share index lost nearly 2.5 percent while the peso neared the P51- one US dollar level on Monday.
The peso closed at P50.96 against the US dollar from P50.94 on Friday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.303 billion from $1.372 billion.
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index declined by 182.34 points to end at 7,187.44 points. In the broader market, there were 147 losers, 44 gainers and 46 unchanged.
Volume reached 1.42 billion shares worth P4.64 billion from Friday's 695.75 million valued at P5.2 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, down 85 centavos to P46.40; SM Prime, down P1.20 to P40.20 and BDO, down P4.20 to P143.50. DMS
