PSE index soars, peso loses ground

The Philippine Stock Exchange index climbed by more than two percent but the peso went down by 20 centavos against the US dollar on Tuesday.
The peso settled at P52.52 from Monday's P53.32. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $1.057 billion from $965.6 million.
The index rose by 171.02 points to P7,703.92. In the broader market, there were 128 gainers, 54 decliners and 62 shares unchanged.
Volume at the PSE amounted to 1.26 billion shares worth P11.49 billion from Monday's 1.49 billion shares valued at P10.2 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Metrobank, up 3.97 percent to P79.90; Ayala Land, up 1.79 percent to P42.65 and SM Prime, up 2.47 percent to P37.40. DMS
