PSE index starts year by ending lower

The main Philippine share index closed lower on Thursday, the first trading day of 2020.
The peso ended at P50.685 against the US dollar from P50.635 on December 27. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $944.55 million from $1.33 billion on Dec. 27.
The Philippine Stock Exchange ( PSE) index settled at 7,742.53 points, down 72.73 points. In the broader market, there were 111 losers, 60 gainers and 66 losers.
Volume reached 945,64 million shares worth P4.48 billion from 565.49 million shares valued at P6.6 billion.
Most active shares were led by Manila Water, down 66 centavos to P9.70; Ayala Land, down 60 centavos to P44.90; SM Investment Corp., down P4.00 to P1,039 and SM Prime, up 15 centavos to P42.75. DMS
