PSE index up, peso gains vs US dollar

The main Philippine share index closed higher on Thursday.
The peso settled at P50.651 against the US dollar from P50.756 on Wednesday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.582 billion from $1.963 billion in the previous session.
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index finished 61.40 points higher to 7,797.64. In the broader market, there were 108 gainers, 81 losers and 43 unchanged.
Volume reached 843.96 million worth P5.56 billion from Wednesday's 1.76 billion valued at P5.17 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 95 centavos to P45; BDO, unchanged at P152; SM Prime, up 55 centavos to P42 and Manila Water, up 32 centavos to P10.44. DMS
