PSE index up, peso retreats vs US dollar

The main Philippine share index gained while the peso lost ground against the US dollar on Tuesday.
The peso settled at P51.18 from Monday's P51.105. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.396 billion from the previous day's $1.103 billion.
The Philippine Stock Exchange ( PSE) index finished at 7,955.24, up 64.11 points. In the broader market, there were 94 losers, 85 gainers and 61 unchanged.
Volume reached 368.70 million shares worth P6.04 billion from Monday's 403.79 million shares valued at P3.35 billion.
Most traded shares were led by SM Investment Corp., up P9.00 to P1,014; Ayala Land, down five centavos to P48.80 and Metrobank, up P1.10 to P71.90. DMS
