PSE up, peso surges to P51.05 vs US dollar

The main Philippine stock index gained and the peso surged against the US dollar on Monday.
The peso closed at P51.05 from Friday's P51.24. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $870.2 million from $726.79 million on the previous session.
The Philippine Stock Exchange ( PSE) index closed at 8,043.71 points, up 44 points. In the broader market, there were 99 losers, 98 gainers while 57 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 1.23 billion shares worth P5.31 billion from Friday's 1.3 billion shares valued at P19.59.
Most active shares were led by BDO, down 50 centavos to P139.50; Ayala Land, up 90 centavos to P51,70 and First Gen, up 20 centavos to P27. DMS
