PSG to enforce “no-touch policy” for Duterte
March 9, 2020
The Presidential Security Group ( PSG) said on Monday that it would implement a "no-touch policy" between President Rodrigo Duterte and the public as part of "preventive measure" amid the spread of coronavirus disease in the Philippines.
PSG chief Colonel Jesus Durante said they want to ensure the safety of the 74-year old President and the First Family.
"Personalities who are expected to get near PRRD ( President Rodrigo Roa Duterte) during meetings and events will be thoroughly screened and tested for any illness or symptom related to COVID-19. These include PSG personnel, politicians, and other dignitaries," Durante said in a statement.
He said the PSG would also conduct an assessment of the President's attendance to a large crowd gathering, which could be canceled "not only for his (Duterte's) safety but also for the attendees."
All established health protocols and preventive measures are continuously in effect to all PSG personnel and the entire Malacañang Complex, he said.
Durante said the PSG and the members of the Office of the President-Events Management Cluster are observing preventive measures based on the guidelines set forth by the Department of Health.
He sought the public's "utmost understanding and cooperation."
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, in a press briefing, said Duterte would abide by the PSG's precautionary measure. Celerina Monte/DMS
