April 22, 2019
Clark International Airport was shut down for 24 hours starting 7:40 pm Monday, some two hours after a 6.1 earthquake shook parts of Luzon, including Pampanga.
Clark International Airport Corp. head James Melo said in a statement they had to close the airport to ensure that it is safe for passengers.
Seven persons were injured when a part of the ceiling at the check-in lobby collapsed. They were brought to nearby hospital.
''We have to ensure the soundness of the building structure and other facilities as we are assessing other structural damages around the airport,'' said Melo.
No damage was reported on the Ninoy Aquino International Airport runways and taxiways .
NAIA general manager Ed Monreal said it is business as usual at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport with its runways safe for landing and take-off. DMS
