An alleged member of New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in an encounter with the government troops in Bukidnon on Friday.
1Lt. Ken Cabbigat, Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion Political Officer, said the clash occurred while the troops were conducting pursuit operation at the vicinity of Brgy. Kalabugao, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon at around 9 am.
Cabbigat said the firefight between the military and around 40 members of NPA lasted for about 20 minutes, resulting to the death of a still unidentified rebel and the recovery of some war materials and personal belongings of the bandits.
“Recovered from the scene were four fully loaded magazines of an M16A1 riffle, one Baofeng radio, several Eveready batteries, backpack containing personal belongings and an M16A1 riffle,” he said.
“The recovered cadaver will be turned over to the nearest Barangay for his proper burial arrangement,” he added.
Cabbigat said the pursuit operation was conducted after the rebels fled following an encounter in Brgy. Guilang-guilang, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon last Thursday.
He explained that the first encounter happened when the government troops responded to the reported presence of the rebels who were allegedly threatening the community to vote for certain candidates.
Cabbigat said the government forces also recovered five kilograms of anti-personnel mine after the first clash. Robina Asido/DMS
