The police director of Rizal province and at least 15 other police officers were administratively relieved from their posts Thursday over a shooting incident in Cainta last Monday that left two people dead, including the security aide of a lawyer.
Chief Superintendent Edward Carranza, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police head, relieved Rizal police director Senior Superintendent Lou Evangelista, Cainta police chief Superintendent Pablito Naganag and all police personnel involved in the operation.
“It's an administrative relief pending investigation of the incident in Cainta,” he said in a text message.
Nine personnel from the Rizal police provincial intelligence unit and seven cops from the Cainta police station were also relieved along with two personnel from the Rizal provincial highway patrol team.
“All are restricted to quarters to ensure their availability for further investigation,” the Calabarzon police said in a statement.
The fatalities in the shooting incident were Richard Santillan and Gessmayn Casing. The two were on board on a Toyota Fortuner when they allegedly ignored a police checkpoint in Barangay San Andres.
Santillan was a security aide of lawyer and senatorial aspirant Glenn Chong.
Chong disputed the police version Santillan is a member of the Highway Boys criminal group operating in Rizal and Pasig City.
He said Santillan was about to attend a gift-giving activity for poor children. DMS
