October 11, 2019
Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano on Friday reported a total of 6,873 roads nationwide have been cleared as a result of the government's clearing operations.
"Based on reports submitted by 1,148 LGUs (Local Government Units), 6,873 roads nationwide were returned to the public caused by the cooperation of local governments in provinces, cities, and towns in the country," announced Ano.
According to data revealed by Ano, out of the 6,783 cleared roads, 612 or up to 75 percent of roads and sidewalks are in Metro Manila.
Ano said the 60-day road clearing operations, which started on July 29, have been "generally successful.
"I want to express my happiness for the commitment and active participation by LGUs accross the country towards this campaign. Amid challenges, I can say that a huge portion or percentage of the local government cooperated to our mandate," he said.
"We congratulate the LGUs for their commitment. To be honest, this is not an easy task but despite this we have achieve a resounding participation and compliance from a greater number of LGUs," he added. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
