SC sets hearing on Andaya petition on pay hike on Jan 22
January 16, 2019
The Supreme Court did not take action on a petition filed by a group of government personnel led by Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya seeking to compel the Department of Budget and Management to release the fourth and final tranche of salary increases for state workers.
But in its en banc session Tuesday, the Supreme Court set deliberations on the Andaya petition on January 22
‘’The Court reset its deliberations (on the Andaya petition) for 22 January 2019,” the SC Public Information Office said, in a media briefer.
Budget Secretary Ben Diokno said earlier that the fourth tranche would be released next month once Congress passes the General Appropriations Act of 2019, which he said is necessary to fund the salary increases that would amount to P42.7 billion for the entire year.
Andaya’s petition filed last Monday asked the High Tribunal to compel the budget department to implement the salary adjustment schedule even with a reenacted budget due to delayed passage by Congress this year. DMS
