February 25, 2019
Seven alleged robbery suspects were killed in a 45-minute encounter with Batangas police early morning.
In a report, Agoncillo municipal police station received a call from the Laurel municipal police station about a suspicious white van who rammed the barriers of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint in Brgy. Berinayan, Laurel.
Around 4:45 pm, Agoncillo police established checkpoint in Barangay Banyaga to conduct a lock down to intercept the fleeing suspects.
But, the van still did not stop on the newly-established checkpoint but fired at the patrolling police.
A brief chase ensued and the suspects were cornered by another station patrol few meters from the established checkpoint.
The suspects fired upon the responding personnel which prompted them to retaliate.
The 45-minute encounter resulted in the death of the suspects believed to be member of “Baklas Bubong Robbery Group”. The PNP Patrol vehicle used by the responding personnel sustained couple of gunshots.
No policemen were hurt.
According to Batangas police director Senior Superintendent Edwin Quilates the group was suspected of taking P2 million in cash from eight commercial establishments in the province since 2017.
Quilates said last February 23, they saw the same vehicle from the CCTV on one of the establishments they robbed.
The “Baklas Bubong Robbery Group” is known in the province for breaking the roof of their target. Ella Dionisio/DMS
