Sison’s claims AFP can arrest Duterte has no basis: AFP
July 8, 2019
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) belies Communist Party of Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison claims the military can be ordered by United States to arrest President Rodrigo Duterte.
"We're a sovereign country. We have our own democratic institutions. What Joma (Sison) is saying is an indication of his state of mind," said Col. Noel Detoyato, AFP public affairs chief.
Sison claimed the United States can easily instruct its followers from the AFP and Philippine National Police (PNP) to arrest Duterte and install Vice President Leni Robredo as his successor.
Detoyato said Sison is a "coward" who had "gone insane".
"This coward has gone insane. He is already muttering words of an old man whose memory has abandoned him. Come back to the Philippines and face reality," said Detoyato.
Detoyato also assures the people that the AFP will not arrest the president as stated by Sison.
"Of course not. He is our duly elected president and commander in chief," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
