Soldier dies, 2 hurt as militiaman runs amuck in Basilan

Zamboanga City - A soldier was killed while two militiamen were injured when another militiaman ran amuck in the province of Basilan, a police official disclosed Tuesday. Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, regional police director, said the incident happened around 5:50 p.m. on New Year’s Eve in Barangay Kapatagan Grande, Isabela City, Basilan. Licup identified the fatality as Cpl. Sali Tagayan of the Army’s 15 th Special Forces Company based in Kapatagan Grande detachment. Wounded were militiamen Alejandro Enriquez and Sahadain Mustamad, both assigned at the Kapatagan Grande detachment. Licup said the victims were on duty when the suspect, Faisal Alam, also a militiaman, ran suddenly shot the victims with an M- 16 Armalite rifle. He said the suspect is the object of a hot pursuit by the Isabela City Police Station. He said the victims were rushed to the hospital but Tagayan died while being treated. DMS
