Son of barangay chairman in narco list arrested in Tondo

The National Capital Region Police Office ( NCRPO) on Friday arrested the son of an alleged high value narcolist target who is a barangay chairman due to alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

According to a report, at 4:40 am joint elements of NCRPO Regional Drugs Unit, Manila Police District (MPD) Special Weapons and Tactics and MPD Station 7 along with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) NCR regional office implemented a search warrant against Benedict Carpio alias "Jon-Jon" at Molave street, Zone 21, Barangay 228 in Tondo.

The search warrant was issued by Judge Carolina Sison of Branch 18, Manila Regional Trial Court.

The operation stemmed from casing and surveillance by the operatives against Carpio, the son of Barangay 228 chairman Ricardo Cortez, who is at large, the NCRPO said.

Authorities seized four plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing 50 grams worth P340,000. A shotgun, 49 pieces of live ammunition of a caliber 40 handgun and other drug paraphernalia were also confiscated.

Carpio will face cases for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, in relation to Omibus Election code.

Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar, the NCR director, assured people that cops will continue to keep an eye on government officials involved in illegal drugs.

"If you hold a position in the government, you should not use your influence to commit illegal deeds. Same goes with your relatives," Eleazar said.

"We will continue the operations against those who are involved in illegal drugs particularly those that are included in the government's narco list as well as their relatives and their connections," he added. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
