Stock index clings to 8,000-point mark

The Philippine Stock Exchange index clung to the 8,000-point mark while the peso touched the P53 mark against the US dollar on Tuesday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index finished at 8,008.17 points, up 1.21 points. In the broader market, there were 119 decliners, 104 gainers and 34 shares unchanged.
The peso hit the day’s low of P53.04 before it closed at P52.93, 13 centavos lower than Monday’s close. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $1.234 billion from the previous day’s $1.006 billion.
Volume at the PSE fetched 1.8 billion shares worth P6.47 billion from Monday’s $1.98 billion valued at P5.67 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Ayala Corp., down 1.15 percent to P911; SM Prime, down 1.18 percent to P39.45, Ayala Land, down 1.32 percent to P44.90 and San Miguel Corp., up 4.42 percent to P170. DMS
