Stock index closes below 8,000 points

Philippine stocks ended lower, with the main index finishing below 8,000 points on Wednesday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index settled at 7,979.95 points, down 70.87 points. In the broader market, there were 117 decliners, 84 gainers and 47 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 2.38 billion shares worth P9.62 billion from Tuesday's 1.9 billion shares valued at P8.2 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 1.51 percent to P43.75; BDO, down 2.44 percent to P136 and Premiere Horizon Alliance, up 0.63 percent to P159.
The peso closed at P52.345 against the US dollar from P52.43 on Tuesday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal reached $933.32 million from the previous day's $939.03 million. DMS
