Stock index down after four-day gain, peso up

The local stock index ended a four-day gain but the peso ended higher against the US dollar on Wednesday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange ended at 7,382.43 points, down 31.20 points. In the broader market, there were 95 decliners, 81 gainers and 54 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.15 billion valued at P7.22 billion from 1.18 billion shares worth P7.6 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Metrobank, up 1.43 percent to P75.85; Union Bank, up 2.12 percent to P67.30 and ISM Communications, down 16.45 percent to P5.23.
The peso finished at P52.585 from P52.605 on Tuesday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal at the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to `$1.052 billion from $1.066 billion on the previous day. DMS
