Stock index down, peso gains vs US dollar

Philippine stocks ended lower on Tuesday as the main index shed its gains the previous day to close below the 8,000-point level.
But the peso gained with P51.78 from Monday's P51.91. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $ 1.039 billion from $782.85 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 7,945.37 points, down 139.51 points. In the broader market, there were 113 decliners and 84 gainers while 40 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 599.75 million shares worth P10.55 billion from the previous day's 1.33 billion shares valued at P10.02 billion.
Most traded shares were led by PLDT, down P 114 to P1,244; Ayala Land, down P 1.95 to P50.50 and ICTSI, up 30 centavos to P134.90. DMS
